'Someone' Nonthinking, 2015, acrylic on canvas, 66" x 66"
Think of not-thinking.
How do you do think of not-thinking?
—Dogen, "Fukanzazengi" (1227)
"There is a someone involved in nonthinking, not deliberately trying to think about something. And that embodying someone/emptiness sustains the embodying body/the full round moon shape of the one who sits in zazen thinking of not-thinking. Simultaneously, it penetrates the offering up of that being-time being ever so still and awesome as a mountain. . .
Clear Water. Flowing.
Seeing down to the bottom.
As fish swim by.
Just as fish do.
Boundless sky. Penetrating.
As birds fly off.
Just as birds do."
—Dogen, S, "Zazen Shin" [paraphrase]
